You Are Better Than Perfect

Did she even realize that her words were going to melt my heart for the rest of my life?!

This afternoon, my daughter spotted me writing on Medium. She peeked at my screen, thinking I did not notice.

She broke the quiet, reading aloud the lines on my draft: I am not a perfect Mom.

I am pretty sure she imagined me sinking through my own words.

She asked: “Is this what you think, Mom?”

I said, “Well yeah, that’s the truth.”

She continued, “You are perfect, Mom. Actually, you are the best!”

I appeared unshaken.

She was so determined to change my thought when she said: “You are better than perfect, Mom.”

My heart burst out of joy that moment, along with my laughter!
